What the site visit is really for
6 min readThe point of the site visit isn't to look at the job. It's to find the things that will cost you money and aren't visible in the customer's description of it.
A customer says "replace the vanity". What decides the price is the access, the age of what's behind the wall, and whether the floor comes up. None of that is in the request.
Steps
- Look at access first — stairs, gates, parking, lift bookings
- Find out how old the building and services are
- Look for what you'll have to make good afterwards
- Check what else is happening on site and who else needs to be in there
- Ask what they've already had done, and by whom
